From the first nylon-string chord to the fluency to play any song you bring in. Our guitar classes let students choose a path — classical, fingerstyle, songwriting, electric — and we tailor the curriculum around it.
The guitar may be the most versatile instrument we teach. The same six strings serve Bach transcriptions, fingerstyle arrangements, songwriting and electric solos — which is why our guitar program is built around choice. Students pick a direction, and the curriculum bends around it rather than the other way round.
We start guitarists from age six, when hands are ready for the fretboard, and we teach adults at every level — including complete beginners who have never held the instrument. Whichever path you choose, technique is taught properly from the first chord, so what you learn in one style transfers to every other.
How lessons work at Virtuoso Élite
Guitar lessons are one-to-one — a teacher wholly focused on your path and your pace. Beginners usually start on nylon-string guitars, which are gentler on the fingers; from there the path can stay classical or branch into steel-string acoustic, fingerstyle, songwriting or electric.
The first step is a trial lesson at Pandan Indah or Damai Perdana — bring your guitar if you have one, or play ours. You leave having actually played, and knowing which direction you want to take.
Your teachers
Guitar students are matched to a teacher by the path they choose — the technique behind a classical study and an electric solo is taught differently, and your teacher should live in the style you want to play.
The faculty behind every program is the same: 20 teachers, every one holding at minimum a music degree, several with Master’s qualifications — led by founder Kuan Jea Yi, a Universiti Malaya music graduate with a Master of Performing Arts, now pursuing her PhD at the same university.
The best introduction is in person — book a trial lesson and meet the teacher who would take you on.

Frequently asked questions
What age should a child start guitar lessons?
From age six, when hands are big enough to work comfortably on the fretboard. Younger children who are eager to start on strings often begin on the ukulele and transfer later — the technique carries across. Adults can start at any age.
Classical, acoustic or electric — which should a beginner choose?
Most beginners start on a nylon-string classical guitar: it is gentler on the fingers and builds technique that transfers everywhere. But the direction is yours — at the trial lesson your teacher will help you choose a path, and the curriculum is tailored around it.
Can I learn the songs I actually want to play?
Yes — that is the point of the program. You choose a direction — classical, fingerstyle, songwriting, electric — and the curriculum is tailored around it. Bring in the songs you want to play, and the lessons build the fluency to play them.
Do I need my own guitar?
For the trial lesson, no — you can play ours. For home practice you will eventually want your own; your teacher will advise on the right type and size (children often start on smaller-bodied instruments) before you buy anything.
Not sure which one? Try a few.
A trial lesson is the easiest way to find the instrument that feels like yours — at Pandan Indah or Damai Perdana.
